HANOVER, N.H. (AP) — New England farmers are weighing in on proposed food safety rules at a public hearing in Hanover, N.H.

Tuesday's session at Dartmouth College is one of several being held by the Food and Drug Administration on proposed rules for implementing the 2011 Food Safety Modernization Act.

The law is aimed at increasing the safety of the nation's food supply, but many New England farmers are concerned that their businesses will be harmed. They argue that many aspects of the rules were derived from large-scale farming operation practices that don't represent many of New England's smaller farms.
