Though federal officials don't have hard data yet, they report isolated incidents of some schools shunning healthy lunch options facilitated by the National School Lunch Program. Gary Lewis, superintendent of a school in Catlin, Ill., said his district saw a double-digit percentage drop in lunch sales after transitioning to healthier meals. The school has since cancelled the program, with Lewis saying,

"Some of the stuff we had to offer, they wouldn't eat. So you sit there and watch the kids, and you know they're hungry at the end of the day, and that led to some behavior and some lack of attentiveness."
