A former Dow Chemical Co. employee is suing the company for alleged safety failures stemming from an incident in 2014.

A former Dow Chemical Co. employee is suing the company for alleged safety failures stemming from an incident in 2014.

According to SE Texas Record, the employee, Nazario Escudero, says that a pipe leak exposed him to epichloroydrin at a plant in Freeport. In the lawsuit, Escudero says he suffered from burns on his arm and back that caused disfigurement, pain and mental anguish.

Escudero is seeking between $20,000 and $1 million for medical costs and damages, as well as legal fees.

Escudero alleges he wasn’t adequately warned of the dangerous working conditions and that Dow did not properly secure and maintain plant equipment, and that the company didn’t have a safe evacuation plan. He is seeking a trial by jury.
