A worker at an asphalt production facility in Texas was killed last week when a large storage tank apparently ruptured and spilled 50,000 gallons of tar.
According to KTRK, the worker was buried in about three feet of tar at the Martin Asphalt Company’s facility in South Houston.
The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office said the recovery operation was complete but the cleanup could take days. The tar spilled out into the neighboring residential area.
As the report points out, local OSHA officials are investigating the accident.
Martin Asphalt said it offers a full range of asphalt products meeting ASTM, TxDOT, AASHTO and local specifications for building, maintaining, rehabilitating, recycling and preserving roads. The company also manufactures numerous specialty asphalts.
