Stanley Black & Decker Brings Location-Based Services To Enterprise Mobile Devices

At the Intel Developer Forum 2013, Stanley Black & Decker announced that it is working with Intel to bring the benefits of indoor Location-Based Services (LBS) to enterprises everywhere.

SAN FRANCISCO – At the Intel Developer Forum 2013, Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE: SWK) announced that it is working with Intel to bring the benefits of indoor Location-Based Services (LBS) to enterprises everywhere.

Intel is utilizing STANLEY’s industry-leading AeroScout® Wi-Fi Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, and has integrated the technology into the 4th generation Intel Core vPro processor used in enterprise mobile devices, from notebooks to tablets to Ultrabook 2-in-1 designs. These devices will come fully enabled with embedded AeroScout technology to deliver indoor location services over standard Wi-Fi networks, opening up new opportunities for enterprises across a range of industries—from manufacturing to energy to retail to healthcare—to increase productivity, safety and security.

In industrial environments such as manufacturing plants, for example, organizations can use the Intel LBS capability to deliver location-specific instructions to a mobile worker or enable a transport vehicle equipped with an Intel-based mobile device to quickly locate a particular item within the site, increasing factory efficiency and throughput. In healthcare environments, such as large acute care facilities or senior living campuses, where caregivers and equipment are constantly on the move, the Intel LBS capability can be used to track Wi-Fi-enabled devices, such as mobile workstations and laptops, or to identify the nearest medical equipment, reducing response times to patient issues while maximizing operational efficiency and utilization. Employees in large, multi-location business and government organizations can also use their new location-aware devices to more quickly locate printers, conference rooms or other local resources.

In conjunction with the launch of Intel® vPro Technology with Location Based Services, STANLEY is offering a free, specific-use version of its AeroScout MobileView software along with support for two location use-cases: “Find Near Me,” for helping locate resources within the enterprise, and “Asset Tracking,” which can be used to locate devices equipped with 4th generation Intel® CoreTM vProTM processors.

The Intel LBS specific-use version of MobileView is available to download for free at Organizations have the option to upgrade to the premium, full-featured version of MobileView with extensive location tracking, visualization and reporting capabilities.
