Congressmen from Vermont and New York are proposing legislation in the U.S. House that would expand the nation's guest worker program to immigrant workers who are currently working illegally in dairies. Dairy farmers have expressed difficulty finding U.S. workers willing to work on farms.

Congressmen from Vermont and New York are proposing legislation in the U.S. House that would expand the nation's guest worker program to immigrant workers who are currently working illegally in dairies. Dairy farmers have expressed difficulty finding U.S. workers willing to work on farms. In support of the plan, Rep. Peter Welch of Vermont said,

"You'd take this program out of the shadows and give some security to our dairy farmers who are the hardest working folks in Vermont and some clarity and legal status to the workers who are here working in the barns and getting this extremely important work done."
