LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- The president of the Humane Society of the United States says he's running for a spot on Tyson Foods Inc.'s board of directors.

President Wayne Pacelle (puh-'SEL-ee) announced his candidacy for a seat on the meat processing company's board on Tuesday.

A Tyson spokesman didn't immediately comment, but said in an email that he would respond to questions from The Associated Press soon.

Pacelle says he would urge Tyson to commit to a time frame to phase out the confinement of sows in gestation crates.
