Univar Named Pan-European Distributor for CARBOWAXandtrade; SENTRYandtrade; Pharmaceutical Grade Polyethylene Glycols (PEGs)

Dow Polyglycols, Surfactants and Fluids (PS&F), a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, today announced that Univar has been named Pan- European distributor of CARBOWAXâ?¢ SENTRYâ?¢ pharmaceutical grade polyethylene glycols (PEGs). John Hammer, Dow NAA Product Marketing Manager for Polyglycols, said the new relationship provides a central platform for the delivery of CARBOWAXâ?¢ SENTRYâ?¢ PEGs to the pharmaceutical industry across 27 European Union countries.

According to Hammer, Dowâ??s relationship with Univar will improve the consistency of service to customers across Europe while extending Dowâ??s reach to countries where CARBOWAXâ?¢ SENTRYâ?¢ products were previously not available. â??Working with one pan-European commercial agreement will also help us to work more closely with our customers to develop solutions that provide meaningful performance advantages that address their specific needs instead of simply delivering a product from a warehouse,â? Hammer said. â??Those solutions can involve product recommendations, formulation assistance, logistics or other dimensions valued by the customer.â?

CARBOWAXâ?¢ SENTRYâ?¢ products are specialty ingredients and process aids produced specifically to meet the requirements of the pharmaceutical, personal care, and other industries that are subject to customer, industry or governmental standards for purity. They conform to United States Pharmacopoeia/National Formulary (USP/NF).

FCC, European Pharmacopoeia (EP) Macrogols, IPEC excipient cGMP guidelines, and solid grades (MW 3350 - 4000) are fully compliant with ICH cGMPs for API. The purity of raw materials is maintained at very high levels and CARBOWAXâ?¢ SENTRYâ?¢ products are produced under strict quality control measures including recognized current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).

Pharmaceutical Applications

CARBOWAXâ?¢ SENTRYâ?¢ products are used as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) in drugs for treatment of chronic constipation, and as an intestinal lavage to facilitate bowel cleansing prior to medical procedures such as colonoscopies, radiological exams or gastrointestinal surgery. They are also widely used as excipients for pill and tablet bindings or coatings, gelatin capsules, ointments and creams, liquid medications and suppositories. Liquid grade CARBOWAXâ?¢ SENTRYâ?¢ products are used in liquid oral-dose medications such as cough syrups and elixirs, where they serve as solubilizers and non-alcoholic diluents. Other applications for liquid grade PEGs include nose and ear drops and spray-on medications. Recent Dow innovations include the introduction of low aldehyde PEG grades for gelatin encapsulation or formulations where aldehyde impurities can be detrimental to stability or shelf-life

Solid grades of CARBOWAXâ?¢ SENTRYâ?¢ PEGs are frequently used as processing aids in the pharmaceutical industry when particle size uniformity or fine concentration is desired in the granulation process. They are also used to control tablet hardness and lubricity of tablets and capsules.

CARBOWAXâ?¢ SENTRYâ?¢ products are available in liquid, powder, granular and flaked forms as well as a wide range of viscosities and melt points for formulating flexibility and optimization. The technical team behind CARBOWAXâ?¢ SENTRYâ?¢ products works closely with customers to provide solutions that improve formulation performance, efficiency and economy.
