SPRING HILL, Tenn. (AP) β General Motors Co. has upgraded lighting at its Spring Hill, Tenn. plant and expects to save about $800,000 annually in electricity costs.
The auto assembly plant β built to produce the Saturn nameplate cars β will soon be making 2013 Chevrolet Equinox crossover vehicles. The engine plant, also in Spring Hill, will make a new 2.5-liter engine for the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.
The new high-efficiency fluorescent lights are in the body shop and general assembly buildings.
GM officials said the company will complete a second phase of the lighting project later this year. The combined projects are expected to avoid about $1.3 million in electricity costs annually at the Spring Hill complex.
