Solae Debuts Super Soya at Marks & Spencer Stores in
|Soy protein isolates are 90% protein on a dry weight basis and virtually carbohydrate and fat-free. The proteins are also cholesterol- and lactose-free, making it an attractive alternative protein ingredient for meat-based and dairy-based products.|
This is the first-ever range of meat replacement products in M&S stores. Solae's soy protein ingredients, marketing insights and formulation capabilities feature prominently in the products.
“This project comes after two years of hard work from a number of people at Solae,” said Arturo Ania, business development manager – Solae. “M&S has never sold a meat substitute product prior to this because of concerns about quality and taste – this product line reinforces our belief that Solae soy ingredients provide for some of the most delicious and nutritious soy protein products on the market.”
The product line has seven meals, including Super Soya Meat Free Lasagne and Cottage Pie, with more to come.
M&S product developer Lesley Anderson said, “We first started working on Super Soya products back in 2010 when the trend towards eating less meat started to gain interest, and have worked hard with our chefs and suppliers to create products which taste fantastic. The range is not aimed solely at vegetarians, but those genuinely keen to eat less meat yet who aren't willing to compromise on taste.”
