The International Brotherhood of Teamsters boosted its federal lobbying spending to $405,100 in the second quarter on issues ranging from outsourcing of aircraft-maintenance jobs to enforcement of wage and hour rules, according to a recent filing.

The spending was up from $295,700 in the first quarter and from $297,400 in the second quarter of 2009.

The union, which has more than 1 million members, also lobbied on health care changes, pensions, extending unemployment benefits, workplace safety, collective bargaining, organizing rights of FedEx workers and other issues, according to a report filed with Congress on July 20.

Besides Congress, the union lobbied the White House, Vice President Joe Biden's office, the departments of Labor, Commerce, Homeland Security and Transportation, the Transportation Security Administration, the U.S. trade representative and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
