A pillow manufacturer has decided to close a southern Indiana factory it has owned for more than 30 years in a move that will eliminate nearly 100 jobs.
Plant manager Marlin Courtright says the Perfect Fit Industries factory in Loogootee (Luh-GOH'-tee) will cease production in October. Most employees will then be out of work, although some jobs will remain until the plant is shut down by year's end.
Courtright said the company plans to move production to factories elsewhere in the country. The plant about 60 miles northeast of Evansville makes bed pillows for retailers such as Target and Kmart.
Mayor Don Bowling says the company told city officials that there was no changing the decision. He says the job loss will be painful in the community of 2,700 people.
