Arizona officials have pulled nearly a quarter million eggs from wholesaler's warehouses since a recall from an Iowa producer was announced.

The eggs recalled from the Wright County Egg Farm in Galt, Iowa, are believed to have been distributed only to foodservice providers or restaurants in bulk. The state Department of Agriculture says none were believed to have been sold in retail stores.

The recall of 380 million eggs nationwide is one of the largest shell egg recalls in recent history.

State health officials began seeing a surge of salmonella cases in late May, although no Arizona cases have been definitely linked to the tainted eggs.

Cooking eggs thoroughly kills the bacteria. Undercooked eggs or products like homemade salad dressing or mayonnaise that use raw eggs can spread the disease.
