West Virginia's egg production is expected to increase following a national salmonella scare.
Agriculture Commissioner Gus Douglass says state producers can't keep up with the demand since two Iowa farms recalled more than a half-billion eggs. The recalled eggs are linked to as many as 1,300 cases of salmonella poisoning.
State agricultural spokesman Buddy Davidson says West Virginia has 200 licensed egg producers. Davidson says that number is likely to increase.
Rick Rees, the owner of Sandy Creek Farms in Jackson County, says his farm has been selling out of its egg supply faster. Each week he typically sells up to 30 dozen eggs produced at a farm near Parkersburg.
