A Canby fire official says a man crushed by a piece of equipment at a recycling company has been airlifted to a Portland hospital.

The man was not immediately identified after Wednesday's accident at K.B. Recycling and his condition was not known. He was flown to Oregon Health and Science University Hospital's trauma unit.

Deputy Fire Marshal Todd Gary of the Canby Fire District says firefighters arrived to find an employee who had been removed by co-workers from the pickup arm of a garbage truck. Gary says the man appeared to have injuries to his torso.

Recycling company officials declined comment.
