ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- A Canadian auto-parts maker says it will move into in a factory that shut down more than a year ago and employ 363 workers.
Gov. Beverly Perdue's office said Thursday Linamar Corp. will start production in 2012. Ontario-based Linamar produces precision metal parts for vehicle and power generation markets around the world.
The company could employ up to 400 and make an additional $45 million in capital investment by 2020.
Linamar will move into a 65-acre site Buncombe County Commissioners bought this week for $7 million. The plant was emptied when Volvo Construction Equipment laid off more than 200 workers last year.
The plant closed about three years after Volvo Construction announced expansion plans encouraged by up to $3 million in state tax breaks.
