TRW Expanding In Poland

Maker of brake, steering and safety systems said it plans to expand manufacturing of its electrically powered steering systems in Poland.

LIVONIA, Mich. (AP) -- TRW Automotive Holdings Corp., which makes brake, steering and safety systems, said Thursday it plans to expand manufacturing of its electrically powered steering systems in Poland.

About 97,000 square feet of additional manufacturing space will be set up in Bielsko Biala close to an existing site in Czechowice-Dziedzice. Production will start in the first quarter of 2012. At total of 250 new jobs will initially be created.

TRW has four other plants in Poland that employ more than 6,000 people.

Company officials said demand for electronic steering systems continues to grow, with an estimated 80 percent of vehicles expected to be equipped with them by 2015.

TRW shares rose $1.12, or 2 percent, to close Thursday at $59.47.
