EADS Opens Romanian Factory

European aerospace and defense company has officially opened a $56 million plant in Romania to manufacture aircraft components for Airbus.

GHIMBAV, Romania (AP) -- European aerospace and defense company EADS has officially opened a euro40 million ($56 million) plant in Romania to manufacture aircraft components for Airbus.

The plant, which is located in the industrial town of Ghimbav, where Romanian helicopters were produced in the communist era, belongs to Premium Aerotec, a subsidiary of the aerospace and defense group EADS.

So far, Premium Aerotec has invested euro40 million in the plant.

The plant currently employs about 300 people but that will increase to more than 500.

Romania's Prime Minister Emil Boc and EADS officials attended the opening ceremony on Tuesday.
