Supplement Companies Guilty Of Contempt

Two New Jersey dietary supplement companies have been found guilty of violating a court order to suspend operations due to unsanitary conditions.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Two New Jersey-based companies that made dietary supplements have been found guilty of violating a court order to suspend operations due to unsanitary conditions.

Quality Formulation Laboratories and American Sports Nutrition operated from a facility in Paterson. Inspectors found live and dead rats there in late 2008 and early 2009. The companies also were charged with mislabeling their products by not mentioning they contained milk, a food allergen.

In March 2010 a federal court ordered the companies to shut down operations.

A criminal complaint charged they moved their operations to a facility in Congers, N.Y., without correcting the violations as required.

A federal jury in Trenton convicted owner Mohamed Desoky and managers Ahmad Desoky and Omar Desoky on multiple counts of criminal contempt on Wednesday. Sentencing is scheduled for September.
