An Ohio company will pay nearly $150,000 in penalties to settle allegations of hazardous waste law violations at its facility in Fort Madison.

The Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday that the Scotts Manufacturing Company of Marysville, Ohio, agreed to pay the penalty stemming from allegations at its pesticide blending and packing facility.

The EPA says inspectors found the company failed to conduct inspections, didn't close hazardous waste storage containers and didn't properly date and label the containers, among other violations.

According to the EPA, the company also will spend $122,000 on a wastewater treatment and reuse project and at least $30,000 on a project to safely dispose of chemicals and hazardous wastes from Fort Madison schools.
