Officials in Bulgaria says 15 people were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger train and a service train carrying railroad workers outside the capital.

The Health Ministry says ambulances transported the injured passengers and the two train engineers to hospitals in nearby Sofia.

Railroad company director Pencho Popov said an international passenger train traveling from Serbia to Turkey collided with the service train Monday morning, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of Sofia.

He said the train company is investigating the cause of the crash.
