Salted Plums Recalled Due To High Levels Of Lead

Candy El Pecas has recalled two kinds of salted plums which contains high levels of lead that could harm children and pregnant women.

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (AP) -- Candy El Pecas has recalled two kinds of salted plums which contains high levels of lead that could harm children and pregnant women.

The Chula Vista-based company voluntarily recalled Candy El Pecas Saladitos con Chile and Candy El Pecas Saladitos con Limon on Thursday.

The state Department of Public Health informed the company about the elevated lead levels on Wednesday.

Public health officials found that the product contains .7 micrograms of lead per gram. The FDA says children under the age of 6 shouldn't consume more than 6 micrograms of lead per day.

The salted plums are sold in 1.5 ounce clear bags with a red, white and green picture of a boy on it.
