Texas Instruments Inc. said Friday it opened its first semiconductor-making plant in China, near a growing segment of the company's customers.

TI bought the wafer-fabrication facility in the Chengdu high-tech zone from Cension Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.

The company said the facility could turn out more than $1 billion in annual production of analog chips and has room for expansion.

Gregg Lowe, TI's senior vice president for analog, said Chinese customers are increasingly using its analog chips in electronics.

Shares of Texas Instruments rose 41 cents to $28.72 in trading Friday.
