A Canadian company that makes flooring for trucks, trailers and shipping containers plans to start operations at a closed plastics factory in northern Indiana.

Conforce International says it will spend more than $13.8 million to buy and equip its factory in the city of Peru. The company announced Wednesday it expected to start hiring for manufacturing and supervisory positions early next year and potentially have 175 workers there by 2013.

The factory was owned by Swedish plastics and polymer maker Trelleborg Automotive and had about 200 workers when it was shut down in 2008.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Conforce up to $865,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $57,500 in training grants.
