State police say a truck driver was fatally injured when the truck fell about 50 feet into a ravine at a southwestern Indiana coal mine.

The crash happened Tuesday evening at the Triad Mine near the Knox County community of Freelandville. Police say the dump truck that 25-year-old Brian Mason of Linton was driving went off the roadway for unknown reasons and landed on its top.

Crews had to free Mason from the truck and he was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he later died.
