LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Kawasaki has been calling back laid-off Lincoln workers earlier than expected.
In late March the plant manager said it would be laying off 115 workers for at least a month because of a parts error. The plant payroll includes about 1,500 people at the passenger rail car plant and an adjacent plant for utility and recreational vehicles.
Plant manager Mike Boyle told the Lincoln Journal Star this week that the laid-off workers have been returning over the past two weeks -- about two weeks earlier than he'd predicted. He wouldn't say how many of the 115 are back on the job.
In March Boyle said one of the company's suppliers made a number of structural rail car parts incorrectly and that parts en route from Japan were also incorrect.
