Del Monte Worker Dies After Being Injured

Long-time employee of Del Monte Foods in Topeka, who was an accomplished dirt track racer, died after being injured at the plant.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- A long-time employee of Del Monte Foods in Topeka, who was an accomplished dirt track racer, died after being injured at the plant.

Del Monte spokeswoman Chrissy Stengel announced Tuesday that 64-year-old Tom Wunder died Saturday at a Topeka hospital.

Stengel says Wunder was injured at the plant Friday. She says the company is investigating how Wunder was injured and would not release any details until the review is complete.

Wunder worked at Del Monte for 33 years, most recently as a warehouse coordinator. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports he was known for more than a quarter-century as "Thunderin Tom," who won more than eight championships and had more than 200 feature wins on dirt tracks across the Midwest.
