Missouri Approves Manufacturing Tax Break

House members have approved legislation that provides an incentive for manufacturers to keep or expand their operations in the state.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri House members have approved legislation that provides an incentive for manufacturers to keep or expand their operations in the state.

The bill cleared the House by a vote of 152-1 on Tuesday and now goes to the Senate.

It extends to more manufacturers an existing law that lets companies retain half their employee withholding taxes if they improve their factories for new or expanded product lines.

The incentive was first put in Missouri law during a special session of the Legislature last year. It was aimed chiefly at Ford Motor Co. and its plant in the Kansas City suburb of Claycomo.
