CHICAGO (AP) -- The CEO of Boeing says workmanship, not poor design, led to a hole ripping open in a plane that the company built for Southwest Airlines.
CEO Jim McNerney said Wednesday that signs point away from a problem affecting entire fleets of the Boeing 737.
A Boeing Co. jet operated by Southwest developed a 5-foot (1.5-meter) rip in the roof 34,000 feet (10,300 meters) above Arizona during an April 1 flight. Federal investigators say they found problems with riveting work on the plane. The investigation is continuing.
