NORMAL, Ill. (AP) -- The president of Mitsubishi Motors North America is heading to the company's central Illinois plant to make what the company is billing as a "major manufacturing announcement."
Gov. Pat Quinn and labor leaders plan to join Shin Kurihara (SHIN' Koo-ree-HAH'-rah) at the facility early Friday.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports Quinn is expected to announce incentives for Mitsubishi to keep the plant operating.
Mitsubishi workers had accepted a wage cut tied to a company promise to bring in a new model for assembly at the plant.
Mitsubishi leaders also plan to join the Bloomington-Normal Electric Vehicle Task Force for a second press conference Friday on community plans to promote the use of electric vehicles. Normal plans to lease two Mitsubishi Motors electric vehicles.
