Pratt & Whitney To Create 180 Jobs

State officials say the aerospace firm will expand its Columbus manufacturing facility to create the new jobs where workers will overhaul military aircraft engines.

ATLANTA, Ga. (AP) -- State officials say aerospace firm Pratt & Whitney will create about 180 new jobs in the Columbus area.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced Tuesday the company will expand its Columbus manufacturing facility to create the new jobs. He said the extra workers will be involved in overhauling military aircraft engines.

The governor says that Pratt & Whitney will expand its existing Columbus Engine Center with a building upgrade and new equipment. Deal says the 215,000-square-foot facility east of Columbus already employs more than 300 people.

Pratt & Whitney was founded in Hartford, Conn., in 1925, and now has 36,000 employee worldwide, according to its website. Its headquarters are in East Hartford, Conn.
