Plans Scrapped For Isuzu Plant In Alabama

Isuzu Motors Ltd. is selling a building in Pinson Valley where it had planned to build a light commercial truck plant.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Isuzu Motors Ltd.'s is selling a building in Pinson Valley where it had planned to build a light commercial truck plant.

The Birmingham News reports that Isuzu has officially scrapped its plans for the 300,000-square-foot industrial building.

The project had been planned for more than four years, but the faltering economy stopped it and work never really got started.

The newspaper revealed Isuzu's plans in January 2007 after the company paid $8 milion to buy the property. Economic developers had been working wiht the company for months before the purchase and talked about a possible 1,000 jobs.

Patrick Murphy, head of economic development for the Birmingham Business Alliance, said it's disappointing that the project didn't pan out.
