LONDON (AP) -- Britain's official statisticians say factory output rose 0.3 percent in August compared to July, and now stands 6 percent higher than a year ago.
The Office for National Statistics said Thursday that output of all production industries, including mining, oil extraction and energy, also rose 0.3 percent month-to-month, moving 4.2 percent above the year-ago level.
Simon Hayes at Barclays Capital noted that the underlying growth trend has been slowing. The three-month growth rate was 0.7 percent, compared to 2.6 percent in the three months ending in May.
