Tyson Suspends Operations After Recall

Company says the suspension deals with 'USDA activities' following the voluntary recall of roast beef and ham produced at the plant and distributed to Walmart delis.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Tyson says it has temporarily suspended operations at its Buffalo deli meats plant.

The company says the suspension that began Tuesday has to do with "USDA activities" following the voluntary recall in August of roast beef and ham produced at the plant and distributed to Walmart delicatessens.

A statement from the company Wednesday said the meats are fully cooked to destroy bacteria and that other steps are taken to inhibit bacterial growth.

The suspension affects about 480 of the 560 plant employees.
