BELDING, Mich. (AP) -- State officials say they've found higher-than-acceptable levels of lead in the air as a result of emissions from a Michigan industrial company.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment says the high lead levels come from Mueller Industries Inc. in Belding, about 45 miles northwest of Lansing.
The agency says the company is "in the process of upgrading emissions control equipment."
A message seeking comment was left with Mueller Industries after business hours Tuesday. The plant makes brass products.
The state says the national air quality standard is 0.15 micrograms of lead per cubic meter as a three-month average. It says recent monitoring results through May show averages as high as 0.22 micrograms per cubic meter.
