PALO ALTO (AP) -- General Motors has renewed a $2 billion contract with Hewlett-Packard to manage the automaker's technology infrastructure, the company said Wednesday.

HP said the multiyear deal was extended a year before it expired, and covers most of the work the technology company already provides for GM. The two companies have worked together for 25 years.

Elements of the contract include work on GM's OnStar vehicle communications system, mainframe services and service desk and site support.

Shares of Hewlett-Packard Co. fell 66 cents, or 1.4 percent, to $45.95.
