American Superconductor Wins $445M Contract

Maker of equipment for power generators and utilities received a multiyear order worth about $445 million to make wind turbine components for Sinovel Wind Group.

DEVENS, Mass. (AP) -- American Superconductor Corp., which makes equipment for power generators and utilities, said Monday it has received a new multiyear order worth about $445 million to make wind turbine components for Sinovel Wind Group Co. Ltd.

Under the terms of the deal, the company will start shipping electrical components for the 1.5 megawatt wind turbines early next year. Shipments will take place over a 30-month period.

American Superconductor is currently shipping 1.5 megawatt electrical components under another contract that ends in early 2011.

Sinovel, based in Beijing, is one of the world's largest wind turbine manufacturers.

American Superconductor shares rose $2, or 6.5 percent, to $32.96 in morning trading.
