Missouri Lawmakers Pushing For Ford Incentives

Gov. Jay Nixon and Missouri House leaders making a final push for incentives they say are important to keeping a Ford assembly plant in the Kansas City area.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Gov. Jay Nixon and Missouri House leaders are making a final push for incentives they say are important to keeping a Ford assembly plant in the Kansas City area.

The legislation would let manufacturers keep half of the withholding taxes they normally would pay the state if they invest in factory improvements for a new product.

The House has passed two versions of the bill. But the session ends Friday, and the bill has yet to be debated in the Senate, because some lawmakers are pushing for new limits on tax credits.

Nixon touted the legislation during a news conference Tuesday at the Ford Motor Co. plant in Claycomo. Meanwhile, House Majority Leader Steven Tilley held a Capitol news conference urging passage of the legislation.
