Packaging Manufacturer To Open Facility In Virginia

Latin American company Phoenix Packaging Operations is investing more than $20 million in a facility to make thermoformed rigid plastic packaging, creating 240 jobs.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A manufacturer of plastic packaging is opening its first U.S. operation in Pulaski County, creating 240 jobs.

Gov. Bob McDonnell says Phoenix Packaging Operations is investing more than $20 million for the manufacturing facility to make thermoformed rigid plastic packaging. It also will make Pulaski its North American headquarters.

The company is a subsidiary of Phoenix Packaging Group, a family-owned Latin American company that designs and makes plastic packaging and foodservice disposable products.

Officials say the company chose Virginia after looking at more than 40 possible locations in six states.

McDonnell approved an $850,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund for the project.
