German Manufacturer Opens Plant In New York

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- Bitzer Scroll Inc., a subsidiary of a German company, has opened a new $30 million factory in upstate New York.

The company has said it will create 289 jobs at the suburban Syracuse factory, which makes scroll compressors for domestic and international customers. The compressors go into air conditioning units that cool apartment buildings and supermarkets.

The company first announced the project in February 2008. The factory is located in the former General Motors Inland Fisher Guide plant complex. The auto plant closed in 1992.

Bitzer is a subsidiary of Bitzer SE of Sindelfingen, Germany.
