Ball Buys 4 Anheuser-Busch InBev Plants For $577M

Plastic and metal packaging company has completed its acquisition of four Anheuser-Busch InBev plants located in Georgia, Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida.

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (AP) -- Plastic and metal packaging company Ball Corp. has completed its acquisition of four Anheuser-Busch InBev plants for $577 million, the two companies said Thursday.

The plants in Rome, Ga.; Columbus, Ohio; Ft. Atkinson, Wis.; and a beverage can-end manufacturing plant in Gainesville, Fla., annually produce about 10 billion aluminum cans and 10 billion can-ends.

More than two-thirds of the cans are manufactured for leading soft drink companies and the rest for the Belgium-based AB InBev. The plants employ about 635 workers.

Shares of AB InBev fell $1.14, or 2.5 percent, to $44.80 in afternoon trading while Ball, based in Brooomfield, Colo., fell 3 cents to $49.17.
