Worker Burned At AK Steel Plant

Fire and union officials say a worker has been badly burned at AK Steel's Middletown Works coke plant in southwest Ohio.

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (AP) -- Fire and union officials say a worker has been badly burned at AK Steel's Middletown Works coke plant in southwest Ohio.

Middletown Fire Capt. David Adams says the man was performing maintenance work Monday when he slipped into a pool of hot water. No one else was injured.

Union local President Scott Rich says the worker was injured about 9 a.m.. Adams says the injured man's name was being withheld until his family could be notified.

The injured man was taken by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Hospital officials had no immediate information on his condition.

A message seeking comment from AK Steel Holding Corp. was left Monday at the company's headquarters in West Chester.
