MOUNTAINTOP, Pa. (AP) -- An insulation manufacturer is shutting down a northeastern Pennsylvania plant, laying off more than 130 workers.
Officials at CertainTeed notified workers of the closure during meetings Monday. Company officials say a slowdown in new home construction has decreased demand for insulation.
CertainTeed Vice President of Operations Kermit Stahl says production will stop immediately. The Mountaintop plant will be shut down over the next couple of months but Stahl says he's optimistic it can reopen when demand picks up.
Union officials say employees will be offered a severance package that will be negotiated be the union and the Valley Forge-based company.
