Teva Beats Watson In Patent Dispute

Company said Thursday it won a patent dispute against Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. over the contraceptive Seasonique.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Teva Pharmaceutical Industries said Thursday it won a patent dispute against Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. over the contraceptive Seasonique.

The company said the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada granted the company's motion for summary judgement. Watson was trying to make a generic version of the drug before the patent expired in 2024.

Teva still has ongoing patent disputes over the drug with Mylan Inc. and Lupin Ltd.

Shares of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., based in Israel, rose 73 cents to $63.81 while shares of Watson, based in Corona, Calif., rose 53 cents to $42.30, in afternoon trading.
