Life Technologies Expanding In Maryland

Laboratory supplier says it expects to add 100 jobs in Frederick, Md., by expanding  manufacturing, research and development operations there.

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Laboratory supplier Life Technologies Corp. says it expects to add 100 jobs in Frederick by expanding its operations there.

The Frederick County Commissioners on Tuesday pledged $50,000 worth of services, enabling the company to qualify for a $500,000 state economic development grant.

The Carlsbad, Calif.-based company currently employs 300 in Frederick.

The local operations director says the new jobs will be in manufacturing, research and development.

Life Technologies makes instruments, cell cultures and other products used by hospitals, research laboratories and pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
