FedEx To Introduce Electric Truck In L.A.

Company will put its first all-electric parcel delivery vehicles in the U.S. into service in the Los Angeles area starting in June.

CHICAGO (AP) -- FedEx Corp. said Monday it will put four electric trucks into service in the Los Angeles area starting in June.

They will be the company's first all-electric parcel delivery vehicles in the U.S.

FedEx introduced hybrid-electric trucks in 2004. It is buying electric vehicles from two different suppliers to gauge their reliability. Navistar is assembling two of the trucks in Indiana. They are based on a design already used by FedEx in Europe.

The other two will come from an unnamed manufacturer, with delivery scheduled for later this year.

FedEx shares rose 43 cents to $92.23 in afternoon trading.
