Whirlpool Wins $1.8M In LG Patent Suit

Appliance company said Friday that it has won a patent dispute against LG Electronics over Whirlpool’s patent for a refrigerator door ice maker.

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Whirlpool Corp. said on Friday that it has won a patent dispute against LG Electronics in a Delaware district court.

The jury awarded Whirlpool nearly $1.8 million in damages. The dispute pertained to Whirlpool's patent for a refrigerator door ice maker. The jury found that certain LG refrigerators infringed upon that patent.

Whirlpool said it will seek a permanent injunction against LG when the judgment is finalized later this year.

Shares of Whirlpool fell 76 cents to $85.77 in midday trading.
