MAN To Boost Vehicle Production In Brazil

German truck and bus maker said its Latin America unit will increase production at its plant in Resende, Brazil by adding a third shift over the next few weeks.

FRANKFURT (AP) -- German truck and bus maker MAN SE said Wednesday its Latin America unit will increase production at its plant in Resende, Brazil by adding a third shift over the next few weeks.

MAN, based in Munich, said the move will create about 700 jobs and increase truck and bus chassis production at the plant to 72,000 yearly from 50,000.

"Brazil has left the global economic crisis behind it and will continue to grow this year," MAN Latin America President Antonio Roberto Cortes said in a statement.

"We are confident that other countries in Latin America will also see further growth."

MAN said it became the Brazilian market leader for trucks over three tons in 2009 and led the market in trucks over five tons for the seventh year running.
