BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- An Arizona steel fabricator that is getting $7.1 million in federal tax credits to establish a wind tower manufacturing plant in Bismarck says it also needs to arrange orders and secure private financing.
Schuff International vice president Robb Waldrep says the company hopes to begin building wind towers in Bismarck within a year, but first it needs to line up sufficient orders.
The federal government recently announced $2.3 billion in stimulus money for clean energy projects, including the tax credits for Schuff Steel, a subsidiary of Schuff International.
Waldrep says the tax incentives give a significant boost to the Bismarck project, but demand during the recession and financing during the credit crunch will affect the timeline of a new operation.
