GM Expecting 3 Bids For Hummer

General Motors is expecting final bids from three potential buyers of its troubled Hummer brand by next week.

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) -- General Motors is expecting final bids from three potential buyers of its troubled Hummer brand by next week.

That's according to GM Chief Executive Fritz Henderson, who told reporters in a conference call Friday that a decision on selling the brand is expected by the end of April.

The Hummer and the Hummer pickup truck are manufactured at GM's assembly plant in Shreveport.

Henderson says the automaker is working on two parallel recovery plans -- one that involves bankruptcy and the other that doesn't. But he says that a bankruptcy filing is "probable" because of the restructuring goals GM must meet to get more government loans -- though that is not the company's preferred strategy.
